Welcome to the new SDSFIE WebSite
Welcome to the new SDSFIE WebSite. The Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure and Environment is now recognized as an enterprise standard across the entire Department of Defense business mission area. As such, it is being managed by the Defense Installations Spatial Data Infrastructure (DISDI) Group. The DISDI Group is a formal governance group reporting to the Department of Defense’s Installations & Environment Investment Review Board. It is chaired by the DISDI Program Manager and made up of leaders from each of the Services’ programs for Installation Geospatial Information and Services (IGI&S) as well as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. As part of the SDSFIE 3.0 implementation, the standard will also become an integral part of the data standards used in the National System for Geospatial-Intelligence (NSG), as required by Department policy. In the first decade of the SDSFIE development, it was generally seen as a technical activity with a project-level scope. Given the standard’s new enterprise role, the DISDI Group developed a vision and a strategy which triggered a complete re-engineering of the standard – SDSFIE 3.0 is an adaptable logical data model, tailored to defense business requirements and processes. Although tailored to Department of Defense needs, our federal, state, and local stakeholders are welcome to use the standard and help us mature it in future releases. Major Announcement

The SDSFIE 3.0 Gold has been approved as final by the DoD Real Property and Installation Lifecycle Management Investment Review Board (IRB). The official SDSFIE 3.0 version was released on the SDSFIE web site Browser on November 5, 2010.  The development of the SDSFIE Logical Data Model (LDM) is a major milestone in the development of SDSFIE. It is the result of the contributions from so many in our community, particularly the many Subject Matter Experts (SME's) without whose effort the development of this LDM would not have been possible.

The Gold version of the standard is an enterprise level LDM that is not intended to be directly implemented. A hierarchy of SDSFIE adaptations tailored to specific implementation requirements will be prepared from the Gold version and implemented at our various implementation level organizations. Soon the three Component HQs Adaptations (Air Force, Army, and USACE) developed during the pilot projects will be added to the SDSFIE Web Site. Other Component HQs Adaptations will be added as they are completed and approved. These approved Component HQs Adaptations of SDSFIE Gold will be the basis of all other SDSFIE adaptations.

A Change Management Process is being drafted and will be available on the Website as soon as it is completed and approved by the DISDI Group. Until that time, recommendations for corrections/changes can be made via e-mail directly to the Help Desk. Ways to make these correction/change recommendations visible on the SDSFIE Web Site are being reviewed, and the best identified alternative will be implemented.
