 Current Updates to SDSFIE

March 2012 Updates

What We're Working On Now...

Refining web site navigation and workflows, architecting database backend and dashboards and integrating help desk functionality.

SDSFIE 3.0 Gold Geodatabase Updated

The SDSFIE 3.0 Gold Geodatabase has been updated to match the Logical Data Model.  This is not a new version, but a few corrections were made.  Please log into the website and download the updated geodatabase from the SDSFIE 3.0 Downloads page.

SDSFIE Moves to the Cloud

The Spatial Data Standard for Facilities, Infrastructure & Environment (SDSFIE) migrated to a cloud environment in December 2011.   Following the Federal Cloud Computing Strategy the SDSFIE management team is working in coordination with the office of the DoD Chief Information Officer (CIO), which is taking an enterprise approach regarding cloud computing services to maximize IT efficiencies and ensure interoperability and security risks are adequately resolved.  As always, our goal will be the efficient and effective delivery of the standard to the communities that desire it.

Website Redesign Announced

We will launch a redesigned website for SDSFIE in the near future.  The new site will feature a revamped look and feel, as well as improvements to navigation and workflows.  It will incorporate changes recommended by users and approved by the SDSFIE governance board, the Defense Installation Spatial Data Infrastructure (DISDI) Group.

The new site will feature an expanded support section and a wiki that will answer common questions and allow users to post lessons learned as well as a ‘tool share’ area.  The site, developed by GISi, is the first step in streamlining the community’s experience and how you interact with the standard.

During the redesign process, our goal is to continue existing functionality while incorporating desired changes into the new website.  Thank you for your patience and feedback.

The Air Force Adaptation 3.0.1 – Coming Soon

The Air Force (AF) Adaptation 3.0.1 of SDSFIE 3.0 has obtained the final approval from the Defense Installation Spatial Data Infrastructure Group (DISDIG).  The AF Adaptation adapts SDSFIE 3.0 Gold to meet AF mission requirements. This AF adaptation is the only authoritative IGI&S data schema/source authorized by the AF.

The AF Adaptation and physical data model will be available through the AF CE portal beginning March 2012.  Migration of AF IGI&S SDSFIE 2.X data will begin March 2012 and be completed by October 2012.

SDSFIE 3.0 Gold Approved For Use

The SDSFIE 3.0 Gold has been approved as final by the DoD Real Property and Installation Lifecycle Management Investment Review Board (IRB). The official SDSFIE 3.0 version was released on the SDSFIE web site Browser on November 5, 2010. The development of the SDSFIE Logical Data Model (LDM) is a major milestone in the development of SDSFIE. It is the result of the contributions from so many in our community, particularly the many Subject Matter Experts (SME's) without whose effort the development of this LDM would not have been possible.

The Gold version of the standard is an enterprise level LDM that is not intended to be directly implemented. A hierarchy of SDSFIE adaptations tailored to specific implementation requirements will be prepared from the Gold version and implemented at our various implementation level organizations. Soon the three Component HQs Adaptations (Air Force, Army, and USACE) developed during the pilot projects will be added to the SDSFIE Web Site. Other Component HQs Adaptations will be added as they are completed and approved. These approved Component HQs Adaptations of SDSFIE Gold will be the basis of all other SDSFIE adaptations.
